Law enforcement and public safety officers conduct some of the most dangerous jobs while on duty. An often-overlooked threat on duty are needlesticks. An accidental needlestick during a pat-down or search and seizure operation can have major consequences.

Needlestick injuries expose law enforcement officers to various dangers like bloodborne pathogens (diseases) such as Hepatitis B and C, and HIV, which can be extremely detrimental to your health. In fact, 30% of law enforcement officers across the nation will be accidentally pricked by a needle at least once in their career.

So, how can you mitigate some of these potential hazards? Let’s take a look.

General Duty Gloves:

When searching for safety gloves that provide the high level of needlestick resistance you need in these situations, it can become overwhelming.

But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.

We have some of the highest levels of needle-resistant gloves in the safety industry.

The 2137 HexBlue™ glove is designed with both top-tier performance and all-day comfort in mind. Thanks to its industry-leading ANSI/ISEA level 2 needlestick protection and SuperFabric® coverage across the entire palm and rolled fingertips, you can take on even the toughest tasks with confidence.

The soft goatskin leather palm provides the flexibility, comfort, and grip you need to safely navigate sharp objects in confined spaces - whether you're working with sharp objects, patting down suspects, or rummaging through cluttered areas. With its form-fitting design, adjustable hook-and-loop closure for wrist mobility, and touchscreen-compatible fingertips, the 2137 HexBlue™ offers the ultimate in protection and convenience. You'll stay safe and ready for action, no matter what the job throws your way. This glove is not recommended during the use of tasers or firearms.

If you will be dealing with obvious sharps, like gathering shrapnel from a car accident, for instance, the 4041 would be your glove. The 4041 offers extreme ANSI/ISEA Level 5 needlestick resistance and Level A9 cut resistance on the palm side of the glove with three layers of SuperFabric® brand materialand Level 2 needlestick resistance on the nail tip of the fingers (minus the thumb) with one layer of SuperFabric®. Other notable features include an abrasion-resistant silicone palm and back-of-hand knuckle padding for extra protection against accidental bumps. This glove is not recommended during the use of tasers or firearms.

For daily use, the 4045 will protect you from various sharps and needles that you may encounter. These encounters could occur during home, car, and residence searches. The interior palm offers ANSI/ISEA Level 2 needlestick protection and Level A7 cut protection with one layer of SuperFabric®. The fingertip (pad area) is equipped with two layers of SuperFabric® that offers Level 3 needlestick protection. This glove is not recommended during the use of tasers or firearms.

“Break-in Process”

The extreme needle resistance available in HexBlue™ gloves is made possible due to our exclusively licensed SuperFabric® brand material that’s extremely puncture and needle resistant, helping you to stay protected from life-changing injuries.

It is important to note that due to the extreme level of needle resistance, the gloves mentioned above require a “break-in” period to allow for more dexterity.

Follow the steps below to break in your gloves:

Step 1:

Remove the glove from the packaging to massage and bend the palm and finger areas. Roll the seams between your fingers to relax some of the stitching.

Step 2:

Put the gloves on to let the heat of your hands warm up the material and repeatedly open and close your hand to reduce the stiffness of the gloves.

Step 3:

Wear the gloves around your house for a few days to allow the gloves to mold to your hands and your desired comfort.

If you find that after this process, the gloves do not meet your standards, please reach out to us and we can help you find a glove that meets your dexterity and protection needs.

Tactical Safe Gloves:

For times when you’re actively engaging your taser or firearm in training or in urgent matters, Hex 1® safety gloves are your go-to gloves.

HexBlue™ Hex1® 2132 – Black or Coyote

Whether you’re in training for firearm use or at the range for the day, the 2132 is perfect for all-day use. With no SuperFabric®, you can expect extreme dexterity for finite hand and finger movements. The synthetic leather palm allows for extreme grip with a soft, back-of-hand thumbpad for a convenient brow cloth to wipe away sweat. Lastly, use all of your technology with ease with the touchscreen-capable fingertips. The 2132 comes in a Coyote color that matches most everyday military camouflage. This glove does not offer needlestick resistance.
