Law enforcement and public safety officers conduct some of the most dangerous jobs while on duty. An often-overlooked threat on duty are needlesticks. An accidental needlestick during a pat-down or search and seizure operation can have major consequences.

Needlestick injuries expose law enforcement officers to various dangers like bloodborne pathogens (diseases) such as Hepatitis B and C, and HIV, which can be extremely detrimental to your health. In fact, 30% of law enforcement officers across the nation will be accidentally pricked by a needle at least once in their career.

So, how can you mitigate some of these potential hazards? Let’s take a look.

General Duty Gloves:

When searching for safety gloves that provide the high level of needlestick resistance you need in these situations, it can become overwhelming.

“Break-in Process”

The extreme needle resistance available in HexBlue™ gloves is made possible due to our exclusively licensed SuperFabric® brand material that’s extremely puncture and needle resistant, helping you to stay protected from life-changing injuries.

It is important to note that due to the extreme level of needle resistance, the gloves mentioned above require a “break-in” period to allow for more dexterity.

Follow the steps below to break in your gloves:

Step 1:
Step 1 of the glove break-in process and taking steps to relax some of the stitching in the glove.

Remove the glove from the packaging to massage and bend the palm and finger areas. Roll the seams between your fingers to relax some of the stitching.

Step 2:
Step 2 of the glove break in process showing repeated opening and closing hands to reduce stiffness.

Put the gloves on to let the heat of your hands warm up the material and repeatedly open and close your hand to reduce the stiffness of the gloves.

Step 3:
Step 3 of the glove break-in process showing officer wearing gloves in the line of duty to break them in fully.

Wear the gloves around your house for a few days to allow the gloves to mold to your hands and your desired comfort.

If you find that after this process, the gloves do not meet your standards, please reach out to us and we can help you find a glove that meets your dexterity and protection needs.
